About Us | Why Tyler Mitchell is proud to be an ALIGNED Advocate
We’re different. That is to say, our exclusive focus on business insurance sets us apart. Certainly, being different is just one of the many reasons why Canadian insurance professionals decide to join the ALIGNED team.
Above all, we’re always proud to welcome new members to our team and share their story. Most importantly, our About Us features are just one example of our commitment to connecting with our community. In the same vein, many of us are sharing useful business insurance content on social media every day.
Tyler Mitchell recently joined our growing team. Tyler is an Advocate and reports to SVP & Team Leader Darcy Franko-Felice. He works closely with ALIGNED colleagues across Canada.
Tyler is proud to be part of the ALIGNED Insurance team. In his own words, here’s what Tyler has to say about ALIGNED.
Q. Why did you join ALIGNED?
Tyler: Coming from a large brokerage, I wanted the chance to grow and further develop my professional skills. In my previous role, I only dealt with mid-market risks. ALIGNED is allowing me the opportunity to support the needs of small business owners.
Q. How did you first hear about ALIGNED?
Tyler: I had connected with Andrew Clark a few years back via Linkedin and have kept in contact since then. Recently, I stumbled across ALIGNED’s website and was so impressed by the quality of well-written business insurance material available to clients across Canada.
Q. In your opinion, what sets ALIGNED Insurance apart?
Tyler: Definitely capped workloads. This allows us to focus on excellent customer service and ensure that our clients are well taken care of on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, our team members are owners. We all have “skin in the game” which provides additional motivation to work even harder for the business and really provide exceptional customer service.
Q. Why did you choose an insurance career?
Tyler: Actually, I started out pursuing a career in a totally different sector. However, a close friend of mine spoke highly of the insurance industry so I ended up going back to college for it and have never looked back!
One of my first jobs and arguably the most satisfying in my insurance career to date was working as an adjuster. A lot of people have negative thoughts about the insurance industry as a whole. This is because – thankfully, more often than not – you purchase an intangible product that you really hope you will never have to use. While it’s great to not have to make a claim, it means that the value of business insurance can be hard to quantify. Unfortunately, it is only when you actually suffer a loss that you realize the true importance of protecting your business with insurance.
Q. In your career to date, what are you most proud of?
Tyler: I am most proud of my work as an adjuster during the tragic 2016 Fort McMurray forest fires. As you can imagine, this catastrophe was extremely significant and emotional for everyone involved. Having had the opportunity to support and develop long-lasting relationships with the victims during this time is something I will never forget. I still keep in contact with some of the people I worked with to this day!
Q. Tell us about your most recent professional designations.
Tyler: I currently hold the Canadian Risk Management designation offered through the Global Risk Management Institute and have a diploma in Business Insurance. I have completed a number of Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses and am working to obtain the designation. In addition, I am working towards my Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation.
Q. In your opinion, what’s the single most important service an insurance broker delivers to a client?
Tyler: I believe there are two components that are synergistic in business – knowledge and relationships. Our customers come to us for professional insurance advice. At ALIGNED, each one of our team members has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the commercial insurance industry. Collectively, we work to ensure that each insurance program is tailored to the specific needs of each client’s business.
Strong relationships are essential to us – that’s why we work as your advocate and care so deeply about helping to ensure that you are satisfied with our customer service.
Q. Which of ALIGNED’s 18 points of differentiation do you find the most personally meaningful and why?
Tyler: “Only deal with owners”. How many of us have been victims of poor customer service time after time and felt like just a number? This point is built off one of our three core beliefs – “having skin in the game” – and alludes to our team having personal ownership in the brokerage. We take pride in what we do and are proud to offer a unique and unmatched customer experience!
Being different is a point of pride for every ALIGNED insurance broker and Advocate. And it’s because our founder, President & CEO Andrew Clark wants to deliver different kind insurance broker experience to Canadian business.
Since day one, we’ve taken pride in 18 things that we do differently for our clients. Ultimately, what gives us the most pride is delivering the best solutions and more value to every Canadian business that we support.
