Giving Frequently – The Rainbow Society of Alberta

Giving Frequently – our donation to The Rainbow Society of Alberta

Giving. Donating. Sharing. Caring. There are as many ways to describe the impetus to give as there are ways to give.

Since day one, giving has been one of the 18 ways in which we are, quite simply, different. This is because helping people will always be at the heart of what we do. And it’s the reason why giving generously, frequently and consistently is an essential part of the ALIGNED employee experience.

As a result, our social responsibility program was created at the same time ALIGNED Insurance was founded. It is, quite literally, a foundational part of our organization and a way in which we work hard to lead by example. In our communities, in our industry as well as across Canada.

We know that improving lives and advancing causes is what drives Canadian charities and non-profits. Connecting people to community, educational, environmental, food, healthcare and social programs is at the heart of what the not-for-profit sector does.

We also understand how deeply charities and non-profits resonate with people. In addition, we understand how important financial gifts are to helping a charity or non-profit keep delivering on their mission. This is why, each month, one of us selects a charity or non-profit organization that we are passionate about. And then we, as an organization, donate to that organization.

This month, Advocate Pam Lecavalier selected The Rainbow Society of Alberta for an ALIGNED Insurance Give Frequently donation.

Pam shares, “Over the course of my insurance career, I have been able to participate alongside fundraising events with The Rainbow Society of Alberta. The society works really hard to grant wishes for children who reside in Alberta and have been diagnosed with a severe chronic or life threatening medical illness. COVID-19 has hit this charity hard as most of their fundraising comes from events that involve public gatherings.”

In their own words: How The Rainbow Society of Alberta helps people

As a result of our commitment to Giving Frequently, a donation is being made to The Rainbow Society of Alberta.

In short, here is what this organization has been doing to help children throughout the province of Alberta since 1986:

“The Rainbow Society of Alberta is the only wish-granting organization dedicated solely to Alberta children with a severe chronic or life-threatening medical illness.

We define chronic as a medical condition that severely impacts the child’s activities of daily living. The impact and restrictions that may result from a variety of factors including, but not limited to, recurrent hospital stays, use of oxygen and/or ventilator machines, high doses of medications, or the need for a considerable degree of medical intervention.

The inclusion of chronic illness in our mandate sets us apart from similar organizations in Canada. The Rainbow Society is an essential resource for chronically ill children who do not qualify for a wish under other programs.”1

In addition, the society shares that:

“The Rainbow Society of Alberta is a registered charity dedicated to granting wishes for children, between the ages of three and eighteen, who reside in Alberta and have been diagnosed with a severe chronic or life-threatening medical illness. This mandate is performed in strict adherence to the following guidelines.

  • The wish must be in the best interest of the child.
  • The wish must be fulfilled outside of a hospital environment when possible, thereby including the immediate family.
  • The privacy and dignity of the child and family are maintained at all times. “2

Furthermore, The Rainbow Society of Alberta notes: “Our success can be measured in many ways, whether it be the number of dreams fulfilled, the relationships built within the community, or the number of lives touched along the way. When children are no longer victims of life-threatening or severe chronic illnesses, then our dream will come true. In the meantime, we are grateful for the generosity and support that allows us to continue to do our special work on behalf of these courageous children and their families.”3

In conclusion – our commitment to giving

Social responsibility. It’s about more than just giving, it’s about people. We know it is our privilege to connect our clients with better business insurance. And we know that it is our social responsibility to help others in a number of ways.

Giving Frequently is one of those ways. We invite you to learn more about the organizations that ALIGNED team members have selected and we have supported over the years here.

How we are also Giving Generously…

In addition to Giving Frequently, each year, a portion of ALIGNED’s profits are donated to a registered Canadian charity. It is important to us that our clients are part of our social responsibility program. That’s why once each year, we invite each of our clients to propose a charity that is meaningful to them. And it’s why we also engage our clients in selecting the charity that receives our Give Generously donation.
