Here’s some info about The Grocery Foundation – a not-for-profit that gets food to hungry kids…
“The Grocery Foundation does much more than feed hungry children. It nourishes their potential and their wellbeing.
Our funding helps to ensure tens of thousands of school-aged children and youth have universal access to proper nutrition while at school. We do this through Foundation grants, industry donations and fundraising events, and through campaigns like Toonies for Tummies where the public and industry rally together. 100% of donations made through this campaign go directly to kids and youth in the communities where the funds are collected.
We also conduct a number of programs, including our School Voucher program, which helps make nutritious foods more affordable to programs.
Our industry and the network of student nutrition programs are focused on making a positive impact through fundraising, grants and donations and on engaging communities in this cause. In 2016, we launched our Agents of Change Program with teens from across Ontario and are actively working to continue to engage them in our efforts and vision, helping to feed a healthier generation and their futures.”1
The Grocery Foundation – How they help others
Based in Etobicoke, Ontario, the not-for-profit The Grocery Foundation works to raise funds, build public awareness and, most importantly, get food to hungry kids through student nutrition programs.
They share the following information about the impact the foundation has had across Ontario: “The Grocery Foundation is an Ontario-based not-for-profit representing leaders from Canada’s grocery industry. The Foundation was established in 1979 to enrich the lives and wellbeing of children, helping them learn and succeed.
One in six children in the country live below the poverty line and far too many of them wake without certainty of their next meal. Student nutrition programs are a great way for children to get the nutrition they need and are linked to positive outcomes.
Over the past 38 years, the Foundation has raised in excess of $88 million, which has gone toward over 250 organizations meeting a number of health and wellness needs including providing nutritious breakfasts and snacks for school-aged students.
Many Grocery Foundation companies and their employees also work as volunteers alongside countless community groups nourishing dreams, abilities, and brighter futures.”2
