More About Andrew: His Story…
Having grown up with a strong desire to help others, Andrew’s life changed forever when in, July 2001, he was involved in a serious automobile accident for which he was at fault. Shortly after the accident Andrew received a Statement of Claim in the amount of $2,200,000.
As a 21 year old student at the University of Guelph, Andrew now owned, a severely damaged pick-up truck, a significant amount of student debt and incredible sense of remorse and responsibility for the injuries and damage he caused. In what still feels like a miracle to him, Andrew’s insurance broker and insurance company made certain those involved received compensation for the injuries they incurred and repaired Andrew’s truck.
Andrew was left with an unmistakeable sense of gratitude towards the insurance industry which has forever stuck with him. Upon nearing the completion of his undergraduate degree, he began to explore potential career paths and specifically learn more about the industry that was there for him when he needed it most. This process of investigation led Andrew to the single conclusion that he wanted to join the insurance industry and unlocked a passion to help others as he was helped.
Shortly after starting his Chartered Insurance Professional(CIP) designation Andrew was offered a position with the business insurance division of AON in Toronto. Andrew progressed quickly and continued to aggressively pursue continuing education opportunities and in 2007 decided to join Marsh Canada to broaden his industry and product knowledge. While working on some of Canada’s largest and most complex corporate insurance programs, including 4 of the Top 20 TSX Listed Companies by market capitalization Andrew completed his MBA part-time through Wilfrid Laurier University. Andrew continued to gain both knowledge through the completion of additional professional designations and practical experience in risk management & insurance as well as all academic areas of business.
In 2010 Andrew was offered an opportunity to lead and manage a department within Marsh dedicated to providing insurance products, risk management solutions and advice to small and medium sized organizations(SME) across all industries. With Andrew’s guidance and leadership the department grew rapidly as did Andrew’s experience, knowledge and expertise.
After rising through the ranks of the 2 largest insurance brokerages in the world, placing tens of millions of dollars in commercial premium, negotiating thousands of policies, receiving numerous awards and professional designations Andrew left Marsh. He did so because of a vision he had for a different kind of insurance brokerage that exclusively serves the needs of Canadian businesses.
