If this page has the most visitors between Monday, June 10, 2019 and 11:59 pm Friday, August 30, 2019, Hillside Festival will receive our Give Generously 2019 donation of $2,000.
Here’s some info about Hillside Festival – a not-for-profit music festival that delivers year-round community events…
“Both at the height of summer and in the middle of winter, the Hillside Festival creates festivals that bring innovative music, indigenous drumming, children’s entertainment, environmental learning, and glorious food to thousands of people. At the festivals and during the rest of the year in local schools and at camps, it offers educational workshops in indigenous culture, songwriting, peacemaking, health & wellness, and environmental projects. As a 34-year-old grassroots organization that promotes creativity, altruism, equality, environmentalism and peacemaking in every aspect of its work, Hillside has won many awards for its programming and green initiatives.
Most recently, it was awarded Best Green Operations from Canadian Music Week, honoured with the City of Guelph’s Accessibility Award, and given the Grand River Conservation Authority’s highest distinction — the Honour Roll award. From Festivals and Events Ontario, it won this year’s Best Greening Award and a Festival Events of Distinction award. In 2016, Hillside was also nominated for Best Small Festival and Best Children’s Programming from Canadian Music Week. The Globe and Mail, CBC Radio 2, and Eric Alper on Canada AM have named it “one of the ten best festivals in Canada” several years running.”1
Hillside Festival – How they help others
Based in Guelph, Ontario, Hillside Festival also works to raise funds, awareness and support local community members. They are led by a vision to “create a more vibrant and caring world by promoting altruism, equality, environmentalism, and peacemaking in every aspect of its work.“2
Here’s some information about a project that Hillside Festival is proud to support: “Each year, we also try to raise money to sustain our Girls & Guitars project. Girls & Guitars has three parts:
- In-school seminars featuring singing and songwriting;
- Staged performances at Hillside’s summer and winter festivals; and
- A songwriting course
This project proceeds from our recognition that the music industry tends to be dominated by males who are typically the performers, agents, presenters, promoters, and critics of music.
By placing female singer-songwriters in the schools who will teach children about the power of voice, of continued music practice, the importance of creativity for maintaining a healthy life, and how to write songs that move and inspire, we are hoping to make grassroots change among the upcoming generations. To command a stage and a place in people’s hearts and imaginations is any artist’s role, and it is our purpose to teach all children that they should not abandon a creative life once they reach adulthood just because they don’t see themselves as a “good fit” for that world.
Through our staged performances and our songwriting course, we want to encourage artists of all ages to be heard, loudly and clearly, because equality is not only a central feature of our vision, it is fundamental to peace, liberty, and fair opportunity in our world.”3

Give Generously 2019 – Our Social Responsibility Campaign
Give Generously is part of our Social Responsibility program and just 1 of 18 great reasons why Canadian organizations choose us for their business insurance needs.
We are proud to deliver a different kind of insurance experience, one that is built upon three core beliefs:
- Having “skin in the game” is important
- Doing what you say you are going to do when you say you are going to do it
- Fulfilling our social responsibility to help others
One of the most important things we do is give frequently, consistently and generously. Across Canada, every ALIGNED advocate and owner believes it is a privilege to handle our clients’ insurance needs and that we also have a social responsibility. to help others in a number of ways.
Each year, a portion of ALIGNED Insurance profits are donated to a Canadian charity that is nominated by an ALIGNED client. During the Give Generously campaign, people vote by visiting web pages that ALIGNED builds to celebrate each charity and the great work they do.
Our annual Give Generously donation is made to the registered Canadian charity that receives the most “votes” which are recorded as web page sessions.
