E-news | Celebrating 7 years of….ALIGNMENT

Alignment Matters | Insurance Insights & News

It’s true…time really does fly when you’re having fun! It’s hard to believe that 7 years ago this month, I started ALIGNED Insurance from scratch!! It feels like a lifetime ago…and like yesterday…all at the same time!!!

It took months to secure, but the day our first commission cheque arrived is when it all finally felt real to me. I recently came across a photo of that first cheque which instantly transported me back in time! Here’s a short video that celebrates this milestone moment.

Therefore, it will always be a life changing memory for me and one that I’m deeply proud to share with my colleagues, nearly 2,000 clients and the countless other people across Canada who’ve supported us. It’s also why we now close our offices at noon on the 3rd Friday of every March – to give our team members time to relax and, of course, celebrate!

As we look forward to future anniversaries, we know that we are only as strong as our team and the experience they are able to deliver. In other words, this is why capped workloads are a cornerstone of the ALIGNED employee & customer experience and why we are actively looking for more great colleagues to join our growing team!

Most importantly, we know our success and growth wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for the support of people like you! On behalf of the ALIGNED team, I sincerely thank you for being part of our journey and for choosing to work in alignment with us.

Coverage Demystified | Is There Really A Difference Between CGL And Umbrella Insurance

Yes, yes there is. Doing upfront research and working with knowledgeable insurance experts puts you in control when you buy or renew your business insurance.

For example, ALIGNED insurance brokers understand the difference between CGL & Umbrella insurance in Canada. Certainly, they know what questions to ask to ensure that the coverage you buy directly aligns with the very specific risks – both hidden and obvious – that your business faces.

And, when you work with ALIGNED, you get the insights you need to make informed business insurance decisions.

First things first. Here’s what CGL Aka Commercial General Liability Does…

It’s important to understand that in every single Canadian province – with the exception of Quebec – business owners owe what’s known as a duty of care to members of the general public.

Spring Is Here. Are You Worried About Water Damage To Your Business? You Are Not Alone..

It never rains but it poursVirtually 300 years later, an essay entitled “It Cannot Rain But It Pours”1 continues to resonate worldwide. According to Wikisource, Johnathan Swift first published these prescient words in a 1726 collection. That is to say, when heavy rains happen, especially nowadays, water damage and business interruption is on Canadian business owners’ minds.

And there’s a good reason for that. A senior VP of a leading Canadian insurance company told Insurance Business Canada in 2017 that, “Water damage really is the new fire damage.”

“I have been in the insurance business for 21 years and, in that period, I’ve seen quite an important shift in construction insurance underwriting, from fire exposure to water damage. The high amount of water damage claims is the most serious concern for construction insurers right now.”2

Certainly with Global News Canada devoting an entire section of their website to water damage, when it‘s pouring rain, businesses across the country are at risk.

Likewise, water damage and business interruption Canada are some of the most common questions our team here at ALIGNED are asked about.

So…What Info Is Needed To Get BCIN Designer Insurance

In short, change is the only constant. In 2006, legislation was passed in Ontario to introduce a new designation for designers in the construction industry. Commonly known as BCIN (which stands for Building Code Identification Number). And, at the same time, provincial-wide standards and examinations were established. Meanwhile, to help people prepare for code examinations, some Ontario colleges like George Brown College began offering building code courses.

Since then, the awareness about the important differences between BCIN firms, professionals, architects and architectural firms has been growing. Above all, when securing insurance, Ontario Building Code Identification Number (BCIN) designers and BCIN firms should select a business insurance brokerage with the experience to appreciate the differences and secure specialized products.

ALIGNED has dedicated professional liability insurance products for BCIN designers as well as design firms. And to give you a sense of the info you need to get an insurance quote…keep reading…

Giving Frequently – Our Donation To Canadian Blood Services

Giving. Donating. Sharing. Caring. There are as many ways to describe the impetus to give as there are ways to give.

Since day one, giving has been one of the 18 ways in which we are, quite simply, different. This is because helping people will always be at the heart of what we do. And it’s the reason why giving generously, frequently and consistently is an essential part of the ALIGNED employee experience.

As A Result, Helping Canadian Charities By Giving Frequently Is What We Do

Certainly we know that improving lives and advancing causes is what drives Canadian charities and non-profits. Connecting people to community, educational, environmental, food, healthcare and social programs is at the heart of what the not-for-profit sector does.

Above all, we know how deeply charities and non-profits resonate with people. In addition, we understand how important financial gifts are to helping a charity or non-profit keep delivering on their mission. This is why, each month, one of us selects a charity or non-profit organization that we are passionate about. And then we, as an organization, donate to that organization.

Explainer | Understanding Hull And Machinery Insurance In Canada

Ocean marine insurance. Just as the comprehensive coverage in auto insurance protects the insured individuals against physical damage to their cars, so does hull and machinery insurance provide physical damage protection for the ships or vessels and the machinery which is part of them.

In Depth: What You Need To Know About Collision Liability

A very important provision of hull and machinery insurance is the running down clause, also known as “the collision liability” provision. As its name suggests, this clause protects the owner of the craft against legal liability. This is the liability that may arise out of the owner’s vessel colliding with another ship and damaging its property or cargo.

It is very important to note that the collision liability clause does not apply to legal liability arising out of bodily injury or death, or property damage to fixed installations such as piers.
