Samantha Roy recently joined our growing team. Samantha is an Assistant Advocate and reports to SVP Darcy Franko-Felice. She works closely with ALIGNED colleagues across Canada.
Samantha is proud to be part of the ALIGNED Insurance team. In her own words, here’s what Samantha has to say about ALIGNED.
Q. Why did you join ALIGNED?
Samantha: I was looking for a change in pace. Coming from a personal lines insurance background, I found myself wanting to be challenged. When I saw a job posting for an Assistant Advocate, it really sparked my curiosity regarding the commercial side of insurance.
I always want to be a part of a company that is very forward thinking – this is because I enjoy being part of a team that is passionate about accomplishing results. During the interview process with Andrew and other members of the ALIGNED Insurance team it was very clear that everyone shares a very straight–forward approach and always puts clients first. I quickly recognized that customer service is a core value of the organization.
Q. How did you first hear about ALIGNED?
Samantha: I was on Linkedin and happened to notice an ALIGNED job posting. After reviewing the job description I did more research on the website – including reading Andrew’s story about what led him into pursuing an insurance career and starting ALIGNED Insurance. I also came across the 18 things that ALIGNED does differently and immediately realized that these values really resonate with my own personal goals and values.
Q. In your opinion, what sets ALIGNED Insurance apart?
Samantha: The team! Prior joining ALIGNED, I was employed at a large insurance organization. I can tell you that working at ALIGNED is breath of fresh air. Part of this is because the organization is smaller, but another part is because there’s a family-like culture here. My colleagues are always available to support and assist each other. Our weekly meetings are a great opportunity to connect with the entire organization. Getting together on a regular basis helps everyone to keep current on what’s happening throughout the business and the marketplace in general.
Q. Why did you choose an insurance career?
Samantha: Before insurance, I had a decade of customer service experience in the retail industry. There came a point when I decided to evaluate my career path and goals. This led me to take a number of Business Administration Management courses at the Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning in Kitchener, Ontario. It was great to go back to school in the Cambridge / Kitchener / Waterloo area. As it turned out, insurance is a major industry in this area, and when I saw the opening at ALIGNED Insurance, I jumped at the opportunity!
On a side note, when I was 17-years-old, while driving my Dad’s car, I was in an auto accident. Unfortunately, the vehicle was damaged beyond repair. Thankfully, no one was injured but to this day my Dad still misses that vehicle. As a new driver, it was quickly clear to me why insurance is so very, very important.
Q. Tell us about your most recent professional designations.
Samantha: I am working towards my Chartered Insurance Professional designation, and am nationally licensed in every province except Québec. In the future, I am looking forward to obtaining my Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker designation.

Q. In your opinion, what’s the single most important service an insurance broker delivers to a client?
Samantha: Customer service 100%! The support you deliver to your customers is important both before and after they buy and use your products or services. Delivering an enjoyable and truly better customer experience is nothing short of essential.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years it is that treating your customers like gold is infectious. It opens the doors for new partnerships, especially when other businesses see how well you take care of your existing customers. Knowing that the people who work at a company care deeply about their customers really makes the organization stand out.
It is something that you rarely find in business these days and reminds me when I was a child and my mother would always say “treat others the way you would like to be treated.” That saying has stuck with me throughout my personal life and my professional career.
Q. Which of ALIGNED’s 18 points of differentiation do you find the most personally meaningful and why?
Samantha: 100% Canadian owned. I really love the country I was born and raised in. I have been very fortunate to travel across Canada, see many wonderful sights and take part in many adventures. Every day, I take a lot of pride in the fact that I work for a Canadian owned and operated company.
I’m really excited to be a part of the ALIGNED Insurance team and can’t wait to see what the future holds as we grow.
